Dr Faiza Shaheen - Director, CLASS

Faiza was born and raised in East London and is an economist, writer, activist and commentator. Faiza is a regular contributor to debates on popular news programmes including Newsnight and Channel 4 News, and has worked with Channel 4 and the BBC to develop documentaries on inequality. Her PhD from the University of Manchester charted the changing geography of poverty between 1971 and 2001 in the UK, and modelled the economic, demographic and societal factors driving these trends.

Marius Deaconu is currently the president of the National Alliance of Student Organizations in Romania (ANOSR). His main topics are quality assurance and financing higher education. He is part of The Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education, National Council for Financing of Higher Education and National Council for Ethics and University Management. Marius is a PhD student in History, at the University of Bucharest, studying about Social Dimension in Romanian Higher Education system (1971-1986).

Bailie, Christy Mearns is a Councillor for Anderston, City & Yorkhill, in Glasgow.   Christy is committed to a better balance of power in the City Chambers where women and young people are properly represented.   Since her election last May Christy has represented her residents as a member of the Licensing Board and, Vice Convener of the Neighbourhoods, Housing and Public Realm City Policy Committee.
